The Friends of Tribals Society, “Coimbatore chapter” was established in the year 2007 (July) under the president ship of Shri. Shreegopal Maheshwary, aims to help eradicate illiteracy from rural and tribal India Up lifting the less fortunate brethren’s, living in the tribal areas of Nilgiris Bio-sphere. The concept is to provide holistic education to the children hailing from rural and forest villages by a well-trained teacher (preferably a young woman of the same village). The curriculum includes not only basic literacy, arithmetic, science and languages but also includes topics on health and hygiene, physical activities and yoga and introduction to local skills. The content has been developed in a very organic way and is taught in the local language using local stories of the region.
FTS Coimbatore chapter is a volunteer-driven model. In its journey of more than a decade, the chapter has built its own pool of local supporters who fund the entire schools.
Ekal is a story of social dreamers who believed that change is possible and education can be the medium to bring the change in the life of last man in the row in the remotest parts of India.
I am humbled, honored and privileged to assume the role of President from the inception of this chapter since July 2007. Indeed, the growth of FTS has been propelled collectively by the individuals and all the members of the Executive Committee. I look forward to continuing this important work towards fulfilling the mission of FTS.
We don’t live in a perfect world, and there’s never going to be a perfect time to give—but there are always people out there in need of help. Whether interest rates are rising, the economy is in the doldrums, or even if you’re experiencing financial difficulties of your own, the reality is that when you donate your money, you help others who need it.
There cannot be a better service to Bharat Mata than taking its deprived tribal and rural children out of cycle of depravity in a sustainable manner.
